Device Placement
 
EPA recommends that testing device(s) be placed in the lowest level of the home suitable for occupancy. This means testing in the lowest level (such as a basement), which you could use for living space without major renovations. The test should be conducted in a room to be used regularly (like a family room, living room, playroom, den or bedroom); Do not test in a kitchen, bathroom, laundry room or hallway.

Radon Tests For Existing Homeowners
We offer do-it-yourself EPA approved charcoal canisters for homeowners. These devices can be mailed to you for only $35 including lab analysis. Simply expose the device in your home for 48 hours then seal and return to the lab. You will receive your results in about a week. Includes one 4” charcoal canister, instructions and pre-paid mailer.
Radon Testing For Real Estate Transactions
For real estate transactions we recommend state-of-the-art electronic test devices called "Continuous Radon Monitors" or "CRMs”.
CRM devices continuously measure and record the amount of radon in the air on an hourly basis. This information will reveal any unusual or abnormal swings in the radon level during a test period and are specifically designed to deter and detect test interference or weather anomalies. Each device contains a motion detector to determine if the device has been moved. Results are available immediately at the conclusion of the test. Test prices start at $175 for a 48 hour test in the Indianapolis area.
DIAGNOSTIC TESTING
Once radon has been discovered in a property it is often desirable to determine entry sources in the foundation with the aid of a radon "sniffer". REI uses the femtoTECH RS 410 to measure these areas instantaneously. While not approved for screening measurements, these state of the art devices can often save much time and expense by going to the source of a problem. We can perform additional measurements by drilling small holes in the slab to measure radon levels under the foundation and perform communication tests to determine how well a radon fan will be able to remove radon laden air from beneath the slab. Diagnostic tests start at $299 in the Indianapolis area. We will credit this fee against future mitigation projects if work is performed within 30 day of the diagnostic testing.
